Hello, my name is Lisa.  I started Books and a Bear in 2007.  My feelings are if a sick child has to be alone, even for a moment, they need to have something soft to hold on to & hug.  As an educator, I feel that books are one of the greatest gifts one can give a child.  What better way to deal with "hospital time," than to get lost in a book?!! 

To individual kids, I donate a book & a stuffed animal to go with it.  I also donate books, from picture books to chapter books for teens, to the hospital's library.  I currently donate to the Pediatric Floor at St. Rose Dominican Hospital-Siena Campus.  When I first started, I donated books to Sunrise Children's' Hospital, when they said their book shelves were full, I started donating to Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation & then I found the great people that work at the Siena Campus.  During the 2010-11 school year, I have started donating books to the library at Gene Ward Elementary.
